While the views, the activities, and of course, the homes are spectacular here, the best thing about life on the South Shore are our neighbors. They come from all walks of life and from the entire region. And the one thing they all have in common is the importance they place on living a balanced life, in a beautiful place around terrific people.

Wayne & Mary Lockwood
Wayne and Mary spent years exploring different areas of Western Washington looking for the right spot for their retirement. After successful Navy careers, and Wayne's subsequent career as a Financial Advisor, they had a clear idea of what tey were looking for both in terms of a home and a community.
"I knew the moment I saw the floor plan," remembers Mary. Having found an attractive plan, Wayne and Mary decided to plan a visit to see if they could find a lot they liked. They met the Alderbrook Properties team and found they liked both the people and the community. "That didn't stop us from checking out the competition," according to Wayne. While they looked at everything Alderbrook Properties had to offer, they also checked out homes in the area built by other developers. But in the end, it wasn't just the floor plan and the great team that convinced them, it was the quality of the homes that made the decision.
"We love the solid construction, the interior design work we got to choose, and we absolutely love the lot." Boasting fabulous views of the golf green within a private grove of rain forest, their home was completed in the summer of 2008 and the Lockwoods settled in the following fall.
And how have things been since?
"It's better and better every day!"

John & Karen Dobson
John and Karen Dobson moved to the Alderbrook community in March 2006 after an extensive search from Blaine to Olympia. They had some unique criteria in mind: "We love to play golf and we love to fly." You see, while John and Karen enjoy golf, John is also president of the Washington Pilots Association and they needed a home for their airplane.
Since the move, they've fallen in love with the community. In addition to golf, Karen enjoys the weekly card games at the beautiful new clubhouse, and the various social function which bring the entire community - golfers and non - together. Which is one of the pleasant surprises about their move. "The folks at Alderbrook Properties seem to have targeted what is needed out here. The homes appeal to retired people, people with families, people at all stages. And that makes for a really nice community," describes Karen.
John agrees. "Here the focus is simply on people as good neighbors, rather than on who they are or what they have."
And the thing they miss least about their previous life?
"The traffic! We both worked at home and still to consider traffic issues when doing anything. We don't miss that at all!"

Gary & Judy Brockmann
It was friends that brought Gary and Judy Brockmann to the south shore originally. And it's friends that keep them here.
"We'd come for parties and always noted how friendly everyone was," remembers Judy. So when it came time to look for a spot to retire from their busy lives in Mill Creek, they came to Alderbrook. "Gary told me he thought we'd have a heck of a lot of fun here - between the golf, the hiking, the boating - and he was right!"
"You can make life here whatever you want. You can be as busy as you want, or as un-busy as you want," describes Gary. And yet for the Brockmanns, who have children and grandchildren in the city, Seattle and all it has to offer is still so easily accessible, by car, or even better, by ferry.
Judy remembers coming back from Seattle midway through her first year on the south shore on the ferry. "I was enjoying the beauty of the ferry ride, and felt my whole being exhale after the busy day in the city. That's when I first felt that I was really home."
It may have been friends that brought them here originally. but it's the community that keeps the Brockmanns here, and the many new friends with whom they enjoy the south shore life.
